BGIS 2023 ended with Gladiators' no-chicken-dinner win

Overview

Gladiators Esports won BGIS 2023 without winning a single match. The second Battlegrounds Mobile India Series closed at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Stadium in Mumbai with Gladiators on two hundred points across eighteen matches, nine ahead of Big Brother Esports. Consistency was the whole story: the champions never took a chicken dinner yet still lifted the title and seventy five lakh rupees from a two crore pool.

Big Brother Esports led after seventeen matches and needed only a decent final game, but an early exit with one point opened the door, and Gladiators' fourteen points in the last match slammed it shut. Team X Spark finished third on one hundred seventy three points. DeltaPG of Gladiators was named MVP with a four lakh award, while Saif of Big Brother took the Finals MVP, Duke of Glitch the Rising Star award, and Manya of Blind the Best IGL award.

The finals ran from October 12 to 15 in front of a full house, with Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra as the chief guest on the final day. The tournament had opened in July with more than two thousand teams chasing a spot, through The Grind, four rounds, a losers bracket and the semi finals. For Destro it was a personal double: he had also won the inaugural BGIS season in 2021 with Skylightz Gaming.

BGIS 2023 narrowed its field in a four-day semi-final round before Mumbai. Thirty-two teams played from 4 to 7 October 2023, split into four groups of eight in a round-robin format, with sixteen advancing to the Grand Finals. Sixteen came from Round 4 and sixteen from the losers bracket, so the Mumbai field mixed established squads with teams that had fought back through the second chance route.

BGIS 2023 final order behind the podium ran from Medal Esports on 150 points through Revenant Esports on 148, TWM Gaming on 137, OR Esports on 128 and Midwave Esports on 127. GlitchxReborn followed on 122, then MICI Esports on 94, Growing Strong on 92, 4 Aggressive Man on 87, Night Owls on 56 and CS Esports on 54. The sixteen team table on this page carries the full order, and the gap from first to last was 146 points.
