Skylightz Gaming won the first BGIS by three points

The first Battlegrounds Mobile India Series ended on 16 January 2022 with Skylightz Gaming as champions. Sixteen teams played the four-day Grand Finals online, and Skylightz finished on 273 points, three ahead of TSM on 270. The winning roster was Pukar, GamlaBoy, Destro and Saumraj. The title was worth fifty lakh rupees from a one-crore pool. The PMGC Grand Finals slot attached to the event went to GodLike Esports, the highest-ranked side able to travel, rather than to the champions.

TSM's 270 left them second and Team XO took third on 244, ahead of GodLike Esports on 230. Behind them came 7Sea Esports on 195, Hyderabad Hydras on 194, OR Esports on 189, Revenant Esports on 185, Reckoning Esports and Enigma Gaming on 184 each, uDOG India on 183, TeamXSpark on 142, OLD Hood ESP on 126, Tactical Esports on 120, The Supari Gang on 95 and R Esports on 60. The full order matters because this event set the first national hierarchy of the BGMI era, with 213 points between first and sixteenth.

The individual awards went mostly to the beaten finalists. Suraj Neyoo Majumdar of GodLike was named MVP and collected one lakh rupees. Saumraj of Skylightz took two awards, the Lone Ranger and the Rampage Freak, at fifty thousand rupees each. Abhishek ZGOD Choudhary took the Redeemer award, and GodLike were recognised for the most finishes by a squad. KRAFTON ran the series with iQOO as the title sponsor, which is why reports from the time call it the iQOO BGIS 2021.

A four-day online Grand Finals featured sixteen teams; Skylightz Gaming's 273 points beat TSM's 270 by three.

BGIS 2021 began as an open road long before the sixteen team Grand Finals. In-game qualifiers asked every registered squad to play fifteen matches, with the ten best counting, and the top 1024 teams moved into online qualifiers from 16 to 30 December 2021. Sixty-four teams reached quarter-finals from 2 to 5 January 2022, twenty-four reached semi-finals from 7 to 10 January, and the sixteen survivors played twenty-four Grand Finals matches over four days.
