Skylightz Gaming won the first BGIS as underdogs

Skylightz Gaming own one of the tightest finishes in Indian esports history. The first Battlegrounds Mobile India Series ran from December 2021 and ended on 16 January 2022 as an online event, with 24 matches across four days of finals. Skylightz entered the last game six points ahead of TSM, fell early on Erangel, and watched TSM manage only a fourth-place finish. The three-point margin held: 273 points to 270, with 109 finishes and three chicken dinners, and Rs 50 lakh of the Rs 1 crore prize pool.
The title came with a place at the PUBG Mobile Global Championship 2021 Grand Finals in Dubai on 21 to 23 January. Skylightz could not produce the travel documents in time, and with the next two finishers in the same position, GodLike Esports travelled as India's representative instead.
The run belonged to a squad that few had tipped. Dot Esports called Skylightz underdogs before the final week, and Harpreet Singh 'RonaK' Janjuha later told Sportskeeda that winning BGIS 2021 felt surreal. RonaK had already won the PUBG Mobile India Series in 2019 and had played for Fnatic and Team SouL before joining Skylightz.
Skylightz also finished second at the Red Bull M.E.O. Season 4 India event behind Enigma Gaming. None of the reports cited here follow the roster beyond that event.
Liquipedia's two Skylightz pages split the story by division. The Indian team formed on 11 July 2021 and is marked disbanded on 14 December 2022, while the parent organisation, part of Singapore's GC Group with operations in Nepal and Indonesia as well, is marked disbanded on 12 October 2023. The BGIS-winning core linked on this page, Saumraj, RonaK, Destro, Pukar and GamlaBoy, is drawn from Liquipedia's roster records and the players' own histories on this site.
